Drake Certified Lover Boy album breaks ARIA, Spotify and Apple Music records

It also features some intriguing power moves befitting a rapper who was the most circulated artist of the past decade, according to Spotify – including samples from The Beatles’ Michele and Right Dit Fred’s i’m too sexy. The video of this last piece, sexy way 2, was the trending YouTube clip of the week with over 18 million views.

Interestingly, Drake’s 20-track ARIA record breaks a record set by Kanye West last week, when 19 of the 27 songs on his new album Donda made the ARIA Top 50 Singles Rankings, surpassing previous milestones held by Post Malone and Michael Jackson (17 each).

Donda, which features many production credits from Australian duo FnZ, had topped ARIA’s album charts last week – a short-lived accolade given Drake’s current dominance – to also mark the No. 1 fourth album on ARIA. West in Australia.

The pair’s graphic and streaming skirmish echo a larger feud that has unfolded on tracks and social media in recent weeks, bad blood that dates back to 2018 when rapper Pusha T, on his album Daytona, which was produced by West, referred to allegations that Drake used a ghostwriter for his rhymes.

An ongoing back and forth at the time resulted in Pusha T’s explosive diss track Adidon’s story, where rapper Clipse revealed that Drake had a secret son, private information that many suggested was leaked by West.

After a few years of sleep, Drake rekindled the feud in a guest verse on Trippie Redd’s song Treason in August, targeting both West’s age and his infamous support for Donald Trump. Later in the week, West posted (then quickly deleted) Drake’s Toronto home address on Instagram, an incident Drake refers to on Boy in love certifiedstands 7am on the bridle path when he raps: “Give this address to your driver, make it your destination / Instead of a simple message out of desperation.”

While exhausting for music fans who have no interest in choosing sides between two of pop’s most creative artists, the attention-grabbing feud has at least benefited one party: Drake and West’s extremely successful albums share a parent company in a major label. Universal music group.
